Since January 2010, the Marietta Register has kept a full-time reporter assigned exclusively to Marietta City Council and the Cobb County Board of Commissioners. In that time we have logged more than 1,140 meetings, filed 740+ open-records requests, and built a public archive of more than 3,400 documents that any Cobb County resident can read, search, and download for free.
We do not accept story tips, talking points, or story drafts from the Mayor's Office, from Commissioners' offices, from their communications staff, or from any vendor whose contracts appear in our reporting. When the city closes a meeting, we tell you which statute it cited. When a vote is 4–3, we tell you the names. When a public record takes eleven weeks to come back, we tell you that too — and we publish the request itself.
This desk is part of the Register's 11-person newsroom and its 9 contributing reporters. It is reader-funded: roughly 78% of our 2024 budget came from the 13,200+ digital subscribers who pay to keep this coverage independent. If you read it, you should be one of them.
